INTER-COUNTIES CHARITY MATCH - THE EAST ANGLIAN SEA FISHING FUND RAISER.

Many thanks to the ICCM who will be raising funds for us at their annual one day Sea Fishing Event. It is being held on 16th November 2008 at Aldeburgh, Suffolk and normally attracts around 100 fishermen! The money will be raised with help from raffles and other side games during the evening time social. Lets hope they get some lovely weather and lots of people turn up for this event.

FRIENDS OF NEWPORT PRIMARY SCHOOL, ESSEX

A Big Thank You to Friends of Newport Primary School, Essex - Last Christmas children were encouraged to send their Christmas Greetings to their friends by writing message on a wall at the school instead of sending individual cards. They were asked to make a donation for doing this and also to decide to which charities the money collected should be donated. We were one of the charities and we received £48.55.

THE LADIES OF GORLESTON GOLF CLUB

The Grand Sum of £1530 has been donated by Captain Maureen Dark and the ladies of Gorleston Golf Club in Norfolk who have raised this amazing amount from various events throughout the year. This money will be used for equipment in the Great Yarmouth area.

A NOTE FROM OUR CHAIRWOMAN

Following my lovely husband Greg's death a little while ago The Teddy has laid dormant. Greg was a very warm and generous man and although he was ill and couldn't work he made The Teddy his 'hobby', a hobby that he performed with great gusto.

Many have asked if I plan to close the charity I founded as we've been so quiet. I apologise for the lack of communication (totally my fault and no one else's). I have just needed sometime to pull myself together. Now the dust sheets are coming off the charity once more and it's ready to go full steam ahead with just a few changes.

Balloon Corner now only does decorations for very large occasions and in support of any event being held to aid The Teddy.   Balloons by Post continues to help the charity and also to cover all its overheads, publicity etc. so that every single penny donated will be used just for purchasing the medical equipment and sundries needed by the community nurses.

And to prove we're back we thought you might like to know what we have been doing/plan to do with your money. Below is a list of items purchased or in the process of being bought and a brief explanation of its function. It may seem that we have quite a few different machines that all do the same job - measure the oxygen. This is necessary to be able to cover a variety of different situations the patients are facing. We buy as each area community nurses request but the articles still remain ours for use in any of the territories we cover. This means equipment doesn't lie dormant in one section when another is in desperate need of it.

A Syringe Pump which will deliver constant measured doses of medicine for use in such cases as terminal care, anti-asthmatics, chemotherapy, and IV therapy. Used mainly for pain relief and costs £2000

The Community Nurses look after children with many respiratory problems including Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis and Croup, and when they are unwell they are often called to decide if the child needs to go into hospital or whether the nurses can manage them at home. Three Portable Oxygen Saturation Monitor will help to make an accurate assessment of this situation.   £750 each

Three Standalone Oxygen Saturation Monitors are for longer term monitoring for small babies which require oxygen at home. This will also be used with particular monitors to do sleep studies to determine if the babies' lungs are able to cope without supplementary oxygen overnight.   £1200 each

Two Pari Walkboys - A nebuliser system which is powered by a rechargeable battery making it easier to transport, can last for nearly an hour and can deliver the equivalent of about 8 inhalation sessions. This means that the child is no longer housebound. £500 for both

Two TruSat Pulse Oximeters   and Oxytip Wrap Sensor for the smaller patients @ £1300 for both.   This is another type of oxygen measuring equipment.

Two Vacuaide 7305 Suction Pumps for tracheotomies and other throat operations.   £310 each

We are also buying a very special doll which currently is only made in the USA which will be used for training parents in the care of their special needs children. This doll will be used with urethral catheterization and tracheotomy training as well as PICC line emergencies gastrostomy tube and gastrostomy button training. The cost will be over £500

We have already bought a series of monitors and sensors along with a coupler for use on a child suffering badly from epilepsy at a cost of just over £600.

Two special scales have also been purchased to aid careful monitoring of very sick babies @ around £500.

Now that the nurses are aware that The Teddy is up and running again they are formulating their wish lists and we are looking forward to once more helping very sick local children who can be nursed at home.

The charity's website, which has also laid dormant for many months, will now be updated by Alexi and Peter, both trustees, and information about our purchases and the brilliant part our fantastic supporters have played in helping us buy the equipment will be featured on the site once more.

Now that we have lost our front man and all the trustees work during the day we have need of a person/some people who would be willing to talk about the charity to various organisations and schools during the day/pick up cheques/be part of hand-over photography/deliver equipment to various nurses etc. We promise we wouldn't be a constant pest ( J ). Any one who might be interested can get in touch with us on the following email....... contact@teddycharity.co.uk

JULY '06 PURCHASES

During June and July we have been supporting other children's charities with balloon displays for their own fundraising events. This has been financed entirely by Balloons By Post.
This July we have purchased a tipping frame bed for a young sufferer of cystic fibrosis in the Addenbrookes area.
We have also helped the children's community nurses working out of Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow (they cover a territory from approx north London up the M11 corridor to the Cambridge border). We have purchased eight nebulisers together with accessories and other attachments. We have also purchased (for the first time) two portable electronic weighing scales allowing nurses to check accurately on baby development at the infant's home.

PAIR OF TRAINERS

Gorgeous Tracy Greenall and her partner Dan Winters will be competing and fundraising for the Teddy Charity in the South Run on October 22nd. The event is the biggest 10 mile marathon in the world, and the pair will sport Teddy Charity T shirts. We're very grateful to Tracy, who wasn't keen on running at school but has been talked into taking part by her boyfriend (having started training, Tracy confesses she quite likes it!).
