Equipment
Priority is given to equipment that can be used by more than one patient (e.g. portable nebuliser, loaned in turn) or can be recycled to another patient in future.
The Teddy Charity always retains nominal ownership of its equipment in order to prevent it being accidentally 'absorbed' by a hospital or local practice. This also means that instead of a piece of equipment lying idle in one territory it can be used by another community.
The equipment costs usually range between £10 and £1,500, including:
Portable Syringe Driver
Delivers constant measured doses of medicine for use in such cases as terminal care, anti-asthmatics, chemotherapy, and IV therapy. Used for pain relief.
Pulse Oximeter
A non-invasive method of measuring oxygen levels in heart and lungs while the patient is at home to assess whether intrusion is required.
Portable Blood Pressure Monitor
Includes special cuffs capable of monitoring tiny babies and infants to teenagers.
Static Nebulisers
A device used to administer medication to the airways in the form of a liquid mist. This helps patients suffering from acute or chronic respiratory diseases such as cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis or asthma.
Portable Nebulisers
Like a static nebuliser, but is portable and includes a battery pack and car lighter socket adaptor which allows it to be used away from a mains supply. This allows families to go on holiday, often for the first time.
Portable Suction Units
For tracheotomies and other throat operations.
Tech/Talk 8
A multi message device from Inclusive Technology Ltd which allows the recording and playback of up to 96 different messages via a light touch membrane switch pad.
Postural Draining Bed (AKA Tipping Frame Bed)
Aids lung clearance of cystic fibrosis sufferers.
Flowmeter
Oxygen flow meter for premature babies and children going home on oxygen.
Flutter
| Used to enable patients to clear their lungs of mucus secretions, making it easier to breathe and reducing the chance of chest infections.
It is used by patients with long-standing lung conditions such as cystic fibrosis, bronchitis or bronchiectasis.
|
Pep Mask
A Positive Expiratory Pressure(PEP) Mask aids helps people who have difficulty clearing sputum (phlegm) from their lungs. The idea behind a PEP mask is to help the airways stay open longer causing air to help push out the mucus secretions. The mask can be used unaided.
Physiotherapy Wedge
Used to support a patient in bed.
Maclaren Buggy
Special buggy for teenagers suffering violent and self-damaging fits who need to be transported safely.
Digital Thermometer
Instrument used to measure a patient's core temperature.
