MORE KIT BUYS

During March we were able to continue our purchasing. For the Norfolk & Norwich children's community nursing team we bought a Penlon Clario suction unit (for trachaeotomies and other throat operations) and a portable blood pressure unit, which will be used for every young patient seen by the team. This month we also supplied another portable BP unit to the children's nurses outreaching from the Bury St. Edmunds hospital.

GREAT YOUNGSTERS

The Teddy Charity would like to thank the Hedingham District Brownies and Guides for their presentation in early February of a cheque for £266.50 to Teddy trustee Peter Day. We have asked local children's community nurses which piece of equipment they most urgently need right now, and as soon as we know we shall be putting this hard-raised money towards it, and we hope the Brownies and Guides will be involved in the presentation.

FEB 06 UPDATE - SO FAR

Regular visitors to this site will know that www.balloonsbypost.com, who support us financially, are approaching their busiest time of the year, Valentines Day, and we're all praying for record figures (this year they're offering even more value than ever before, so check it out).

Although we're in the early part of February we've already managed to order some equipment for our young clients. We have supplied the children's community nurses at Hinchingbrook Hospital, Huntingdon with an EFlow Rapid Nebuliser, four 'Flutter@ mucous clearers and a specialist wesge pillow (total around £650).

In Ipswich, we've supplied a Nellcor Pulse Oximeter to the local children's team (these units are normally £1,200 but the company kindly gave us a discount in view of our charity work).

JAN 06 - UPDATE

We started the year supplying Chelmsford children's community nurses with two Apnoea (respiratory) monitors, but while doing so there was a panic becausse the nurse's portable blood pressure unit - a pretty vital piece of equipment as it's used for all young patients - gave up the ghost. This is one of the most expensive pieces of equipment we (occasionally) buy, and this model is listed at £2,300, but we managed to scrape together the funds and a nice new monitor with a 5 year guarantee is now in use in the Chelmsford area.
Also this month, working with the Rotary Club of Harlow and Tye, we also helped supply a motorised wheelchair to nurses outreaching from Princess Alexandra Hospital.
All in all, a super start to the year!

TRIBUTE CD

Our efforts to become music moguls stroll along. The CD has featured on BBC Radio Suffolk and on Steve Scruton's Afternoon Tea slot on BBC Essex. The project has already shown a clear profit for the Teds, but we still have a couple of these unique CD's left for Elvis fans.

SINGING FOR THE TEDS

A big thank you to the members of Ashdon Women's Institute who raised £200 for the Teddy Charity by carol singing around the village and holding a Christmas raffle!

DEC 05 – ROUNDUP

We ended the year being able to buy an EFlow Rapid Nebuliser for a family in Great Yarmouth with two very young children suffering from cystic fibrosis, requiring several sessions a day. The much faster and silent new nebuliser will vastly reduce stress levels in applying medication.

Sometimes one only realises has one has achieved by looking back. We were amazed that we had managed to fundraise for, and buy, a total of 44 important pieces of medical equipment for children being nursed at home in the region in 2005. This has cost around £14,000, and would have cost quite a piece more had it not been for the haggling skills of our trustee in charge of buying, who readily admits to putting on a Scrooge persona when dealing with medical supply companies.

Although we’re hoping to buy more equipment shortly in the new year with the proceeds of Christmas ventures, there’s still a mountain to climb in Anglia and we need helpers in all areas to help their own communities. This can range from fundraising to helping to spread the message – you choose the area in which you’re interested, and tell us firmly how much time you can devote.

Will you be part of this roundup next year? I hope so.

GREAT SHOW JAN 7TH!

The Teddy Charity is putting on a show at Abbey Barn, St. Mark's College, Audley End Village, Saffron Walden on Saturday January 7th 2006.

Topping the bill will be American soulsation Mr. Al Sharp, who will be performing tracks from his latest album plus giving a set of soul classics later in the evening. There will also be the Little Big Band, Jo Beetlestone, Alice Walker and Jesssica Tofts. The show will be opened by alleged international reggae sensation Prince Rizla, who will be accompanied by Peter the Pan and the Rastettes, featuring local diva Diana Hoy in her debut as a Caribbean performer.

Tickets are £5 only obtainable in advance from the Tourist Information Office, Market Square Saffron Walden, or give the charity a buzz on 01799 513335.
