GIRLS' SWIM RAISES OVER £1000!

Catriona (left) and Hannah (with special T-shirt!)

Swimming 8,000 metres has not been in vain as Wentworth Primary School pupils Hannah Woods and Catriona McAulay have managed to raise a staggering £1006!

The money will be used to buy much needed equipment for the Community Nurses based in Chelmsford. More info to follow shortly.

Both Hannah and Catriona are very happy that they raised so much and hope their money will make a difference to children who are not as fortunate in their health as them.

The girls would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored them, and in particular Lee Associates Ltd, THB Associates Ltd, Chew & Osborne Ltd, employees at Royal Mail in Maldon, M Scovell, their friends and families and of course Wentworth Primary School.

LATEST BUYS - NOV '05

This month we are buying a De Luxe Clario portable suction unit - the only type with low enough settings for use with infants - for Norwich community nurses. We're purchasing an EFlow Rapid Nebuliser for a young patient in Bury and supplying a tipping frame bed in the Addenbrookes area for a family with two kiddies suffering from cystic fibrosis.

We were also urgently contacted by the children's community nursing team at Chelmsford regarding a baby with 'Ondine's Curse', a genetic condition where a child could stop breathing when asleep. The baby urgently needed an oxygen saturation monitor and an apnoea respiratory alarm (costing well over £1,000) otherwise it was unable to leave hospital. Somehow we managed to find the money but we have now drained our coffers and we're in urgent need of revenue. If you think you'd like to be a local fundraiser, or that your company or club could make a contribution, we'd love to hear from you.

GO JO!

This is the third Laerdal the Teds have managed to supply this autumn to the PAH, who cover the M11 corridor from north London to Saffron Walden. The Laerdals are used to help children recovering at home from tracheotomys and other serious throat and breathing conditions.

Jo raised the money through catering for clay pigeon shoots on her land at Sayes Park, Sawbridgeworth, Essex.

The Teddy Charity would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Hannah Woods and Catriona McAulay from Wentworth Primary School in Maldon who recently completed a sponsored swim in aid of the Teddy charity. In just two hours these girls swam 5,000m and 3,000m respectively!

Watch this space for news of the final total raised and what vital medical equipment that money will buy.

LATEST BUYS - OCT '05

Last month the Teds bought two portable suction units for the Princess Alexandra community nurses at Harlow. So far in October we have ordered an Eflow Rapid Nebuliser for the Jenny Lind Outreach Team at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, and a Devilbiss portable suction unit for the Children's Community Nurse Team at Ipswich.

TRANSPORT OF DELIGHT

Our special thanks go to Kevin Pitt of Harlow-based KP Group, which operates more than 20 trucks and vans delivering daily throughout the United Kingdom.
Kevin was at a Teddy Charity talk and afterwards proposed that charity panels could be carried on the rear and sides of every vehicle in his fleet. Furthermore his organisation would very generously sponsor the entire cost.
All the vehicles have now been fitted with the panels, which measure around 15" x 15", and during the next year it is estimated that the fleet will cover over 1,500,000 miles.
It's not just in the UK either – one truck with a Teddy panel is currently shuttling to Prague!

The panels have been fixed with a permanent adhesive and the sign-maker claims they should outlast the vehicles themselves.
Let us know when and where you spot one. And remember, if you have an item to transport give KP a ring on 01279 415102.

HELPING CHELMSFORD & IPSWICH

AUGUST '05
This month the Teds have been busy again. We have bought a very urgently needed apnoea respiratory monitor for use by the children's community nurses in the Ipswich area, and a portable pulse oximeter for the community nurses of the Chelmsford area, together with a rechargeable battery unit. The total cost was £1,300.

NEW STYLE NEBULISER

It's much more expensive, but in this case you gets what you pays for. See our latest purchase for Addenbrookes in People We've Helped.

GET AHEAD, GET A HAT

The Garden Party organised by Al & Margaret Sharp in Fersfield, Norfolk on July 10th was a great success. Guests were invited to Rent A Hat for the afternoon from a wide selection of attractive millinery and over £200 was raised for the charity. Entertainment was also provided, including a mime artist from the Caribbean.
